Used Audi TT cars for sale

It's comfortable, too, for a coupe, with plenty of room in the front for all but the tallest. Unlike the TT roadster, the coupe does have seats in the back, but they're extremely cramped, and best used as extra stowage to add to the decent boot space. Best of all, the TT drives almost as well as it looks, with good performance from even the least powerful versions. Most have four-wheel drive - and excellent traction as a result - while the firm suspension gives sharp handling, although the low-speed ride is rather firm. That said, the TT's not quite as exciting as a Porsche Boxster to drive, and you're better off thinking of it as a high-speed tourer rather than an outright sports car.

Running Costs
Having been around since 1999, TTs are now becoming relatively cheap, and cheapest of all are the early left-hand drive imports from Europe. However, even the earliest right-hand drive models are now quite affordable. There's a good selection of older models in the trade, but for nearly new, Approved Used is the best route. Running a TT, though, is another matter. All models sit in at least group 17 insurance, with most in 18 or 19. That may be on a par with the Porsche Boxster, but it's dear next to a BMW 3 Series coupe. Repairs, too, will set you back a fair bit. Figures from a leading warranty company show that Audi dealers and independent specialists are among the most expensive, although on a par with BMW dealers and cheaper than Mercedes. The one bit of good news is fuel economy, which can top 30mpg. The V6 is the heaviest on fuel, but even that should return about 25mpg.

Convertible
The TT is that rare thing: a concept car that made it into production. The Roadster version only served to broaden the TT's appeal and has sold strongly ever since it arrived in 1999. The cabin shares the same clean, artistic styling as the coupe and build quality is typically Audi - excellent - even if the cabin is not as good for space as some rivals. The rear seats you'd find in a TT coupe have been sacrificed for space to stow the Roadster's easy-to-use, electrically operated hood, but it’s no great loss they were useless anyway. Roof up or down, the TT Roadster looks great. A front-wheel-drive 150bhp model arrived at the same time as the 3.2 V6 Quattro in mid-2003. The four-wheel-drive V6 also introduced the direct-shift gearbox (DSG) for the first time, which did away with the clutch pedal but allowed lightning-quick manual changes from the gearlever or steering wheel paddles.

Running Costs
As the TT's chassis is derived from the previous generation of Volkswagen Golf, many of the TT's major components are common to a vast number of VW and Audi models. That makes them cost-effective, but Audi dealers' labour rates will bump up the price, even if they are cheaper than BMW or Mercedes dealers. A cam belt change is needed every 60,000 miles to keep the 1.8 turbo engine in good health, but this is not an expensive operation, and the excellent network of independent Audi specialists can help to further reduce the cost of running a TT. Fuel economy for all but the 3.2 V6 is good for a sporting open-top, while tyre wear is also better than for many of the TT's rivals'.
